“Mao’s Last Dancer” is an autobiography written by Li Cun Xin, a Chinese former dancer who was recruited at a young age to leave his village and dance at Madam Mao’s Beijing Dance Academy. In this off-screen approach brief, I designed the book cover drawing inspiration from the Chinese tradition of shadow puppet shows.
